How to Read OTR Tire Sizes
OTR tire sizes come in three main formats. Conventional sizes such as 23.5R25 give the section width in inches (23.5), the construction (R for radial, a dash for bias) and the rim diameter in inches (25). Wide-base or low-profile sizes such as 750/65R25 show the width in millimetres and the aspect ratio. Narrow-base sizes used on haul trucks, such as 27.00R49, follow an older format where the first number is the section width in inches. The tire code article explains these markings in more detail, and the ETRTO and TRA publish the official standards.
Most Requested OTR Tire Sizes
- Wheel loaders: 17.5R25, 20.5R25, 23.5R25, 26.5R25 and 29.5R25.
- Articulated and rigid dump trucks: 23.5R25, 29.5R25, 18.00R33, 24.00R35 and 27.00R49.
- Graders: 14.00R24 and 17.5R25.
- Port machines and cranes: 18.00R25, 16.00R25 and 14.00R24.
- Trucks: 12.00R20, 11R22.5, 12R22.5 and 315/80R22.5.
Matching OTR Tire Sizes to Your Machine
Always start from the size the machine maker approves for your model, then choose the rating and tread depth. Changing to a different size, such as from 23.5R25 to 750/65R25, can improve flotation or stability, but it may need a different rim and can affect speed readings and clearance. Check with your dealer or ask us before switching.
The size alone is not enough to order. You also need the star or ply rating, which sets the load and inflation capacity, and the TRA code, which sets the tread type: E for haulers, L for loaders and dozers, G for graders and C for compactors. A higher number means a deeper, more cut-resistant tread. With these three details, we can quote any of the OTR tire sizes listed below quickly and accurately.
Metric Equivalents of Common OTR Tire Sizes
Many manufacturers now print a metric size next to the traditional one. They describe the same tire, so you can order by either marking:
- 14.00R24 = 385/95R24
- 16.00R25 = 445/95R25
- 18.00R25 = 505/95R25
- 17.5R25 = 445/80R25
- 20.5R25 = 525/80R25
Wide-base sizes such as 650/65R25 or 750/65R25 are not direct equivalents. They replace 20.5R25 or 23.5R25 on some loaders to give more flotation and stability, but they need wider rims, so check with your machine dealer first.
Rims, Tubes and O-Rings
Radial OTR tires on multi-piece rims are tubeless and seal with an O-ring between the rim base and the bead seat band, so replace O-rings with every tire change. Many bias sizes, especially on older machines and trucks, still run with a tube and flap. When you order, tell us whether your rims are tubeless or tube-type, and we will add the right tubes, flaps or O-rings to the shipment so your workshop has everything it needs on arrival.
Shipping Large OTR Tire Sizes
Sizes up to about 29.5R25 fit standard containers, often stacked or laced to save space. Giant sizes on 49-inch rims and above usually ship one or two per container or on flat racks. We plan the loading for each order and include the plan with your quotation. Browse the sizes below, compare brands, and request a quotation for the OTR tire sizes you need.
OTR Tire Sizes by Machine Type
Machine makers fit a small group of OTR tire sizes again and again. Knowing the usual fitment saves time when you request a quote.
- Motor graders: 13.00-24, 14.00-24 and 17.5R25
- Backhoe loaders: 12.5/80-18 front and 16.9-28 or 19.5L-24 rear
- Articulated dump trucks: 23.5R25, 750/65R25 and 875/65R29
- Rigid haul trucks: 24.00R35, 27.00R49 and larger
- Reach stackers and port cranes: 18.00-25 and 18.00-33
Always check the size on the sidewall before ordering. Many machines accept more than one size, and the tire code guide helps if the marking is worn.
Radial or Bias in the Same Size
Most popular OTR tire sizes for sale come in both radial and bias construction. Radial gives longer life and better fuel economy on long hauls. Bias is cheaper and handles side-wall cuts better on short, rough cycles. See our radial OTR tires and all tire types to compare.
Ordering Several OTR Tire Sizes Together
Buyers often order five to ten sizes in one container. Small sizes fill the space inside larger tires, which cuts freight cost per piece. Tell us every size you need and we will build a loading plan before you confirm.
